Opposition disrupts Rahul Gandhi's Speech in Lok Sabha
Pandemonium prevailed in the Lok Sabha, as soon as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi began his speech. Rahul said that he wanted to address the gathering as an Indian, not as a politician. That led to trouble, as opposition MPs protested against this. After a while, Rahul Gandhi resumed his speech. But BSP members did not let him talk despite the repeated pleas from the LS Speaker and other Congress MPs. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee looked upset and he pulled up all unruly MPs. Finally, he had to adjourn the house till 2 PM.Rahul Gandhi, during his brief speech, linked India's poverty to energy security. In order to justify the Indo-US nuclear deal, he cited the example of a widow, Kalawati in Vidarbha (Maharashtra), describing how she is struggling to get power and electricity to sustain her children and fulfill their dreams. His husband has already committed suicide.
Rahul said that we need to secure energy to alleviate poverty. He just wanted to say that nuclear deal would resolve India's energy deficit to a great extent. But the BSP MPs were not in a mood to listen him. They accused that government is threatening their MPs to vote in favour of the government. The house proceedings would resume at 2 PM.
