PM Manmohan Singh leaves for Japan, Left to withdraw support by July 10

Defying the ultimatum from the Left parties, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh set his foot on Japanese soil to attend the much-awaited G8 Summit. He is expected to raise issues such as climate change, global economy, energy security and food security in the meet. Besides meeting other leaders, the PM will hold talks with George Bush tomorrow and is expected to brief him about the developments related to Indo-US nuclear deal. In total, 23 leaders from different countries across the world will attend the G8 Summit.

In a clear defiance of the Left parties, the PM said that UPA has the required numbers to govern the country. He also said that necessary arrangements will be made so that India's representatives go the Vienna at the earliest to meet IAEA officials. The Left parties expressed their unhappiness over the PM's statements and indicated that they would formally withdraw support to the government before July 10. According to them, the PM left no options for them but to part ways with the UPA.
