Prakash and Mandakini Amte receive Ramon Magsaysay Award

Noted social activist Baba Amte's son Prakash Amte and his wife Mandakini Amte won the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for their contribution to improving the lives of tribals through medical care and education. Both Prakash and Mandakini are philanthropist doctors. The couple has been selected for the Community Leadership category of Ramon Magsaysay Award.

Prakash and Mandakini run a school and a hospital at Hemalkasa village in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region. They worked for the welfare of the Madia Gond tribals. Late Baba Amte had also received the award public service in 1985. Prakash Amte said that he was humbled by the this honour. He dedicated the award to his team who always worked for the social welfare and upliftment of poor tribals.
