Shiv Sena leader Madhukar Sarpotdar sentenced in '92 Mumbai Riots Case

Shiv Sena leader and former MP Madhukar Sarpotdar and two other party cadres have been sentenced to 1 year in jail by a Mumbai Court in connection with the '92 Mumbai Riots case. It was alleged that Sarpotdar led a mob of 5,000 people to riot and arson.

Sarpotdar was later released on bail. His sentence has been suspended till August 16 in order enable him to appeal in the Sessions Court. The Sena leader expressed hope that his party would stand behind him in this hour of crisis.
