UPA all set to win the Trust vote with BJP Rebels and Abstentions

Knowingly or unknowingly, BJP is going to help the UPA governement survive the trust vote on the floor of the house. Despite their best efforts, Mayawati and Left parties have become weaker, as BJP has not shown any interest in toppling the government. The party does not want to take the blame, as the popular mood is in favour of the Indo-US nuclear deal. Also, it does not want Mayawati to emerge as a strong leader in national politics.

The UPA now relies on BJP rebels and abstentions. BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has already ditched the party and joined the Samajwadi Party. He is going to vote for the UPA. Suspended BJP MP from Karnataka, Somabhai Patel is also vote for the UPA government.

Reports are coming that some other BJP MPs may switch sides during trust vote. BJP MP from Dharwad South may go against the party whip. In addition, at least two BJP MPs may not reach Delhi due to serious illness. If UPA survives the trust vote, it must thank the BJP secretly for making things easier for it.

The National Conference has already pledged support to the government. Since the opposition has become weaker now, H D Deve Gowda and Ajit Singh may again switch sides. In all probability, the UPA will win the trust vote, but it will lose face and moral high ground, as it did everything possible to remain in power.
