UPA Ramayana: Govt. says Rama destroyed Ram Sethu

In a interesting development, the UPA government has filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court, saying Ram Sethu does not exist, as it was destroyed by Lord Rama himself so that nobody should come from Lanka. The government cited 'Kamban Ramayana' to justify its claim. Senior advocate Fali S Nariman appeared for the government.

The government made it clear that it would be going ahead with the Sethusamudram Project. Nariman also argued that Rama Sethu is not a monument of archaeological importance. According to him, the government is trying to build a channel through the Palk Bay to allow the direct passage of ships from the West Coast to the East Coast without going around Sri Lanka.
