Nepal apologises for Kosi fiasco, to strengthen Kosi river embankment

Nepal finally apologised for the breach in Kosi river embankment. Nepal's foreign minister Upendra Yadav expressed regret and apologies for failing to notice breach on time. When the Nepalese engineers realized the gravity of the situation, it was too late and the dam collapsed, triggering a major flood in Bihar, which submerged at least four districts and affected 15 districts in total. More than 25 lakh people marooned. The death toll reached 60 in Bihar floods. The Kosi river continues to cause widespread devastation in Bihar.

Nepal said it would strengthen the embankment of the river on its side to prevent recurrence of such calamities. Nepal also assured all possible help to India in dealing with the flood situation in Bihar and providing relief and rehabilitation to affected people.
