Nanavati Commission Report: Burning of Sabarmati Express pre-planned
Breaking News! Justice Nanavati Commission report has been tabled in the Gujarat Assembly amidst uproar and chaos created by the opposition Congress. The Nanavati Commission, in his Part 1 report, termed the attack on Sabarmati Express in Godhra as a pre-planned conspiracy and gave a clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The second report on Gujarat riots will come later. Nanavati Commission report completely negated the findings of Justice UC Banerjee (appointed by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav), which said Godhra was an accident and no traces of petrol was found in the train. While the BJP welcomed the report, Congress and other political parties termed it inaccurate. The opposition Congress walked out of the assembly. The political parties and social organizations have questioned the validity of tabling the first part of the report in haste.
Here are the findings of Justice Nanavati Commission:
1) Burning of Sabarmati Express was a pre-planned conspiracy.
2) The conspiracy was hatched by local Muslims.
3) Maulvi Umarji planned the conspiracy, which was hatched at Aman Guest House.
4) 140 litres of petrol were purchased to burn the S-6 and S-7 bogies.
5) The locals pelted stones at the passengers.
6) Salim Panwala and Rana Kurkur bought the petrol.
7) Other conspirators included Hassan, Ratique, Salim, Jabbir and Sheeraj.
8) Hassan Lala opened the doors of S-6 and S-7 bogies and threw burning objects inside.
9) No involvement of the Chief Minister or any minister in Godhra riots could be established.
