Oscar Fernandes apologises for pro-worker remarks on CEO Murder
Breaking News! The Union Minister of Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), Oscar Fernandes, apologized for his pro-worker remark on the lynching of LK Chaudhary, CEO of Italy-based Graziano company in Greater Noida. Mr. Lalit Kishore Chaudhary was beaten to death by the dismissed employees inside the company premises a couple of days ago.In a shocking development, Minister Oscar Fernandes had said on Tuesday that this incident should serve as a warning for managements. He also described the murder of Chaudhary as a fallout of discontent among workers and said workers should not be pushed hard and be dealt with compassion.
Fernandes' remarks sparked off protest and drew flak from the India Inc. The Italian company sources had taken strong objections to the remarks made by Oscar Fernandes and demanded an unconditional apology from him. The CII and FICCI had also condemned his remarks in strong words. Mr. Fernandes had to eat humble pie and apologize after the intervention of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders.
The minister clarified that his remarks were "misinterpreted". He also expressed condolences to LK Chaudhary's family and said, "I had just put my point of view before the media. I apologise if my statement has hurt anyone's feelings".
