Centre asks Orissa Guv for report on Kandhamal Violence, President's Rule likely

Breaking News! The Centre has sent a strong signal to Orissa government over Kandhamal violence today. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has sought an official report from the state governor over the continued violence in Kandhamal. The Home Minister hinted at President's Rule in the state, saying there is a growing demand for imposition of President's Rule in Orissa.

Shivraj Patil also accused the Orissa government of breaching the Constitution by "ignoring" Centre's advisories to restore law and order in the state. He said the Centre has already warned the state government six times and sent 77 companies of BSF and CRPF personnel.

The Home Minister said India is getting a bad name on the global arena because of the situation in Kandhamal and the PM was embarrassed because of this during his visit to France. He also added that Centre is very much unhappy and disappointed with Naveen Patnaik government's inaction to control the violence in the state.

It seems unlikly the violence in Kandhamal will cease given that it has continued unabated now for over 6 weeks. Perhaps those committing these crimes wish to form a New India, one that will accept killing, beating and destroying property of others as an acceptable way of life. Since the Orissa government seems without passion to promote justice, then it must be assumed that the leaders of Orissa would like this violence to continue.
