Indian Tricolour unfurled at Taj Hotel

Breaking News! In a snub to terrorists and their patrons across the border, the national tricolour (Tiranga) was unfurled on the top of Hotel Taj moments ago, which was freed from terrorists by the NSG commandos yesterday.

The glorious history of Hotel Taj goes back to 1903. After being denied entry into Bombay's grand hotel - Watson's Hotel, which was restricted for whites only, Jamsedji Tata had vowed to construct the biggest hotel in India, which will welcome all Indians. The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel & Tower was commissioned on December 16, 1903. Taj Hotel is located at the Gateway of India in Colaba.

The hotel was built at the cost of Rs. 421 million. The chief architects of Hotel Taj project were Sitaram Khanderao Vaidya, D. N. Mirza, and W. A. Chambers. The hotel was converted into a 600-bed hospital during the World War I. Later, the Tatas expanded the Taj Group of Hotels and resorts to various parts of India and World. Along with the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, a new Hotel Taj was constructed later. The old Taj has received the status of a Heritage Hotel.

The Hotel Taj currently has 529 rooms. The hotel has been insured against terrorist attacks and loss of revenue. The latest terror attack left the hotel completely ravaged. It might take a year or so to completely restore the Hotel Taj. In an interview to CNN, Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata admitted that Taj was warned of a possible terror attack, but nothing could be done to prevent such a high-profile and sophisticated attack.
