Martyr's Funeral: Hemant Karkare cremated with State Honours
Breaking News! The brave martyr and former Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare has been cremated with full state honours. Millions of common people, top police officers (including Maharashtra DGP AN Roy) from Mumbai, politicians and people from different spheres of life, paid homage to martyr Hemant Karkare and attended his funeral. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Dy. CM RR Patil and MNS Chief Raj Thackeray were present at the funeral.Lakhs of Mumbaikars stood up on the road to get a last glimpse of the martyr, when the funeral procession was underway under heavy security arrangements. People shouted slogans against terrorists and Pakistan, while they chanted 'Long Live Hemant Karkare' and 'Hemant Karkare Amar Rahe' along with 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.
54-year-old Hemant Karkare, who had fought battles against insurgents, naxalites and terrorists, was the back bone of Mumbai ATS. He was killed along with DIG Ashok Kamte and ATS Officer Vijay Salaskar. He was a brave and courageous officer, who always led from the front and died a martyr's death by receiving bullets in his chest.DIG Ashok Kamte and ATS Officer Vijay Salaskar were cremated yesterday. Hemant Karkare's funeral was delayed by two days so that his daughters could come her from the US and UK. His son Akash lit the funeral pyre and Hemant Karkare's mortal remains consigned to flames.
Meanwhile, Hemant Karkare's wife Kavita Karkare refused to receive any amount from the Rs. 1 crore reward announced by Gujarat CM Narendra Modi for the martyr policemen and also refused to see any politician. Hemant Karkare and Kavita Karkare are the kind of people its extremely hard to find. Not only do they have the reputation of having been straight and honest but to stand by their principles right to the end and then more, in a tired, lonely and bleak future. Hemant Karkare and his wife Kavita Karkare will both be dishonoured if our politicians cheapen the bravery shown by our men in uniforms by bringing in petty politics.
India and the world thanks you Mr. and Mrs. Hemant Karkare, and hopes to learn from and uphold your sacrifice the best they can in these trying times and after. Thank you.
My heart really goes out to the brave souls who have acted as saviors! I salute the late Sri Hemant Karkare. Major Unnikrishnan and all others who will live in our hearts forever! The gratitude i have for them is inexpressible! May their souls rest in peace!
Madam, it is indeed heart wrenching to see such brave officers fall to bullets fired by such inhuman people calling themselves religious terrorists. Words will definitely not do justice to your departed husband. All I can say is that, amongst India's politicians and policemen, he was the true MAN unlike the others.

Hemant Karkare was a honest man
and a true patriot. It is very unfortunate that we lost such a noble man caught in between good and bad. Our politicians are such a nasty people they even tried to manipulate things by anouncing Rs 1 crore compunsation for the police. If we recall the events Narendra Modi is one of the culprits who instigated this type of violent reactions from the minority people.Madam Karkare's decision of not to accept any dirty money from modi is a slap on sangh pariwar group.
Till yesterday Hemant was a hiro of maharastra. Today he is hero of the nation.the political partty which criticising, have run with aligator's tear.
By refusing the so called honour by gujarat chief minister, Kavitaji,you have not only slept to dirty game, you have shown courage have come out as a a better half of the national hero. devi tuje bhi salaam.

please accept my sincere, most heartfelt condolences for your grave loss. i shed tears as i post this comment. may god give you and your children and extended family the strength and fortitude to carry on. mr. karkare are the world's true, extraordinary heroes who make a true difference and keep the ordinary citizens safe and secure and lay their lives down while doing so. may the days and years ahead ease a little in time. and may the departed soul rest in peace ameen.
Iam a woman, for me Kavita Karkare is now an idol. She should be saluted for the brave resilence shown by her after the death of her husband. She is the one who has lost the most in death of Mr. Karkare, may God give her strength and peace. She should also be proud that she is the better half of a national hero, who will be remembered in modern Indian history. She will also live in our heart like Mr. Karkare.
