Nation salutes its Heroes Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar

A proud, but grieving nation salutes its heroes ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, DIG Ashok Kamte and Encounter Specialist Vijay Salaskar. The top cops, who were killed in an encounter with the terrorists that struck Mumbai last night, became martyr for over a billion people in the country. Hemant Karkare was the backbone of Mumbai ATS and his death came as a big shock for entire Maharashtra Police.

The biggest-ever terror attack in India occurred in Mumbai just when people were ready to take their dinner or already finished. Hemant Karkare did not waste time and rushed to lead his team. He wore helmet, put on a bullet-proof jacket before going to the encounter spot with Ashok Kamte, Vijay Salaskar and other ATS officials. 54-year-old Hemant Karkare sustained three bullet injuries in his chest, while leading the operation.

Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar were the top cops in Mumbai. But they did not take any shield and led from the front, which ultimately resulted their untimely death. They showed the extra-ordinary courage and bravery while dealing with terrorists. These super heroes will be remembered in our heart and soul for ever. May their soul rest in peace! It is extremely painful to see how we lose our bravest of the soldiers in hands of a few fanatics. The police force is crippling under hundreds of problems-poor salary, long work hours, poor training, poor living and working standards, insufficient work force , corruption and what not.If I see a traffic policemen taking bribe from a erring truck driver , I do not feel hatred for him , I feel hatred towards the system , where we pay the most important serving people like the police and security forces, teachers the least of salary and other amenities. There should be a big change. At least for the sake of such heroes who sacrifice their life and limb for our safety.

Couldn't agree more with you Moushumi. Lets pay decent salaries to our "Netas" for their "sewa" so that they are no lonmger able to claim that they are in politics for the greater good. In a democracy we will all get the government we deserve..so lets ensure we deserve better!!!

They will always remain an examplery hero to many in the days to come. We are proud of them! It's a very costly price we pay to lose our top cops just in this manner, though. May their soul 'Rest In Peace' and may God give the bereaved families courage, peace & strength.

This terrorist attack is a slap on a face of indian govt. which is unable to take strict action towards terrorism. we are loosing our brave soldiers every month in this kind of attacks and i am very shamefull when i seen our anti-terrorsit squad without proper protection(bullet proof jackets etc.) is this a way you will fight terrorism we are just loosing our bravest soldiers due to lack in protection arrangements given by our so called GOVT. Its clear now that every attack by millitants are going more massive than previous one then why we are lacking in every step. This is time to take strict action. we have shown lot of sympathy to muslim community. we cant do sympathy and removal of terrorism at the same time, but before doing something also remember that " ALL terrorist are muslims but all muslims are not terrorist". So take a appropriate step for removal of terrorism so please i urged to indian govt to do something this time we don't want your speech and condolsence We need action. "akki"

There have been talks that there is a laxity in security, intelligence failure, bla bla bla ....... in this incident.

The crux of the matter is that we have never taken any stingent action on terror. Its high time we should let our actions speak louder than our words. Our retaliation to this gruesome attack must be so strong and equally, if not more, brutal that the terrorists should be scared of even thinking of such acts in their dreams.

It is our responsibility to swing into action. I urge the people of this nation to elect only capable politicians and not the kind of weak politicians that we have. Let us not vote for political parties but to vote for individuals who really deserve to lead us. In any case, they are going to form a coalition as a single party government at both state as well as centre seems to be a distant dream.

Wake up Indid !!!

i agree with what the respective ppl have written....
after reading almost all the comments i say that, STILL the population of India Waits for some Superman/Batman/Spiderman etc to come forward and save everybody from TERRORIST acts.
Do we need to be spoon fed, still???
Statistics say that Nearly 70% of India fall under the Age group of 20 - 35 yrs which is a clear symbol that majority of India is 'YOUNG'...But sadly this does not reflect at all...
Whenever there is such dreadful act, there is always a BLAME GAME being played...someone or the other blames others for the act.
I Say why dos'nt the youth stand up..
or the attitude is ; "until it happens to me (i am safe), i will do nothing"
u have no idea how sad it is to see an earning member of the house to not return ever back home...

Nobody wants to take up the responsibility of this country and everybody is expecting that Mumbai will turn to Shanghai Overnight...and that too leaving India in the hand of the Oldies who are in no way qualified for running our country...

Talking about our ATS encounter specialists...though they gave in their effort BUT...
i have no clue how did they take such silly steps to kill down the terrorists...
i dont think they might have ever thought of their families while entering the Hotel...

After writing all this stuff, u might be thinking what the hell am i doing to make a difference to the society....
i am working with an NGO who works for the youth to help them Relieve stresses that they have accumulated over these years..in this way i am atleast contributing some thing...
This NGO; 'WAYE' i.e World Alliance For Youth Empowerment, is also helping BMC in their CLEAN UP project so as to help keep mumbai city Clean....
I think its time for the youth to take up the task....

This is really sad seeing all these things happening in Mumbai. I must say India government should invest more on security and peace rather than other things. This is really shame for all of us that only 20-30 people can ruin our life so easily. What we pay as income tax, service tax, vat..etc should be proper utilized in these area not in just elections, voting, trips and other things....:(

It is very very sad sorry state of affair. What our intelligence agencies doing. What is the system in place for safety of our fighting heroes?
Many WHY are going in our mind

In a fight like this whether cell jammers is useful ?
Power may be cut . Our commandos/army personnel may use night vision glasses.
Why teargas like sedate gas not used ie if used both terrorist and hostage freeze and our commandos can capture without human loss.

It is a direct attack upon the Indian sovereignty. This is the most destructive incident for humanity.if i could be in chair of PM..i would have call war on Pakistan and definitely tried to make it another Hiroshima or Nagasaki...because we all know, the root of this terrorist activities lies there only.and this is proven in almost all the activities which had taken place in last not less than 50 years....where our head Kashmir is the frequent victim. and now this time they have no fear left to get in to our own Mumbai and start open firing in public places..where victim could be anyone..may be i or you at one day.......
this is very serious issue and i think every Indian specially one like you and me who are well educated should support all the anti-terrorist activities in prominent way..so that we should not loose our top cops lives in such way... and secure the humanity and peace.

It is extremely painful to see how we lose our bravest of the soldiers in hands of a few fanatics.these greats sacrificed their lives while fighting terrorists. These super heroes will be remembered in our heart and soul for ever. May their soul rest in peace!
