11 Braveheart Security Personnel to get Ashok Chakra on Republic Day

Breaking News! The Union Government has decided to confer 'Ashok Chakra' on 11 braveheart security personnel, who laid down their lives while fighting for the nation. The list included six officers who died during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. 'Ashok Chakra' is the highest peacetime gallantry award, equivalent to 'Param Veer Chakra'.

The government has decided to confer 'Ashok Chakra' on Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of Delhi Police, who was killed during the Batla House encounter in Jamia Nagar, Delhi. Former ATS Chief Hemant Karkare and NSG Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan are among others who have been selected for this honour.

Here's the list of security personnel who have been nominated to receive Ashok Chakra on January 26 this year.
  • ATS chief Hemant Karkare
  • Additional Commissioner of Police, Ashok Kamte
  • Inspector Vijay Salaskar
  • Assistant Sub Inspector Tukaram Umble
  • NSG Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan
  • NSG Havildar Gajender Singh
  • Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of Delhi Police
  • R P Diengdoh of Meghalaya Police
  • Pramod Kumar Satapathy of Orissa Police
  • Col. Jojo Thomas
  • Havildar B.S. Bohra
Out of 15 policemen from Mumbai, who were killed during the 26/11 carnage, four were selected for Ashok Chakra, while others will be given the Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
