Another Indian Student attacked in Australia; Vayalar slams Oz Government

24/7 News Network: The racist attack on Indian students in Australia, continued unabated despite the promises made by the Australian government. The latest victim was Rajesh Kumar, who suffered 30 percent burn injuries, when some miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on his house in Harris Park in Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred on Tuesday.

Rajesh Kumar is the fourth Indian students in the recent weeks to be subjected to racial attacks in Australia. Rajesh was saved by his roommate, who covered him with a blanket. The petrol bomb hit him, while he was sitting on the bed. Rajesh is being treated in a hospital in Sydney now.

Another Indian student, Baljinder Singh, who was robbed and stabbed, was discharged from the hospital. The 21-year-old Shravan Kumar, who was attacked by a group of teenagers in Melbourne, is still in a critical condition. Sourabh Kumar, another Indian students, who was attacked on May 9, is now out of danger.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Vayalar Ravi has slammed the Australian government, saying it did not do enough to protect the Indian students. He called for immediate and strong action to prevent any further attack on Indian students.

I, myself, an Indian was assaulted in many occasions while coming back from Work or University in Melbourne. I have reported to the police many times but nothing had been done by them so far. And, after holding by back for some time, I decided to find friends of my own ethnicity(punjabis) and it worked out. In melbourne, at a suburb named 'clayton' no one dares to touch any Indian because they know it is a punjabi suburb and they bash very badly.
I think the others have to do the same in order to survive in
Australia. I strongly suggest to my fellow Indians to unite in every aspect, otherwise you will face a lot of problems in Australia in the future.
Thank You

I am Balwant Thakore here. My son is studying in Melbourne and he was robbed by the tenagers gang. In 2008 95000 students were studying in Australia. There income from students was 15.5 million dollars. Polica has recorded 500 cases of assault on indian students in 6 months (Oct.'07 to March'09).
Now indian students shoult unite there and take up matter strongly with the Govt. Here we are planning to form Parents association to take up the matter with External Ministry and Australian Govt. We should also take up matter with universities for the safety of the indian students.

It is not only India students who are facing a concerted campaign of intimidation, marginalisation and being left isolated. Not so long ago,the president of the AMA,Mukesh
Haikerwal,a prominent doctor, was bashed and left to die while out
walking near his home.I have seen Indian students accepting jobs as
cleaners - which they would never
dream of doing back home.India should restrict student visas as
Australia will give all this scant regard.

It,s series of unfortunate incidents....It,s high time we make aussies relaize it,s they who are also benefitting from huge amount of money that goes to them with our students..........
It,s shows poor mentality of aussies .......It seems it,s not only to do with racism but also the fear that today talented young indian is giving to aussies counterpart...........

I'm an Indian and I do feel sad about what has been happening to you guys over there. But My question here is, instead of saying we should unite and fight against "Racist Aussi's" why don't you all try to integrate with their society? Why do you want to build another India over there? You need to remember that it isn't your country or your backyard there. It is culturally different country. You have taken that decision of leaving India and going to a foreign land to pursue your studies. Then instead of wanting to make the surrounding as per your liking, why don't you try and lead an acceptable and amicable life? You shouldn't expect people over there to follow your way of life. Instead you should make an attempt to fit in.

Like most Aussies, I abhor race- related attacks on anyone. I have many Indian friends, and consider that the Indian community is a great asset to our country. I would like to point out that these attacks have been carried out by a tiny minority of very stupid people who don't represent the vast majority of Australian people. But please be careful, because some of the posts I am reading here are portraying exactly the kind of racist attitude that you are claiming to stand against. Don't lower yourselves to the same level as the small minority of stupid people. I think the police have got the message loud and clear, and will start to tackle the problem of violence in Melbourne much more seriously, as we've been calling out for them to do for years.

I think steve has put things in the right perspective. The action of a small minority must not affect our views about the entire nation.

Thank you, vamsi. Most people in Melbourne are angered by the senseless attacks that have been increasing over the last few years, and most of the attacks are random, i.e. not targeted at a particular race. The police have to get tougher on people carrying weapons, and I think parents are letting us down by not bringing up their children to respect others. Nearly all the offenders are young males, often fuelled by alcohol. I am very sorry about the attacks on Indians, and hope this is going to be dealt with better in future.

I am not thinking that this is not racis attack rather than they are more jelous about indian students. Becuase indian students are very bright and dominating on the education feild thats why they are not able to tolerate. Students are studying as well as working. After successfull completion of studies student will get aus residence visa and good job with good salary. Poor aussies are not able to get this much reputation keeping them these kind shit attack.
