IPL 2: Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 runs
24/7 News Network: In a closely fought game, Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 runs to register their third victory in this IPL Season 2. Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their fifth loss in seven matches. Kolkata Knight Riders continued to be at the bottom of the table, while Mumbai Indians are on third spot on the points table now. JP Duminy was declared "Man of the Match" for his explosive batting and spectacular fielding.Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Jayasuriya got out cheaply, but Tendulkar batted well and made 34 off 30 balls with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. JP Duminy played the anchor role yet again and remained unbeaten on 52 off 37 balls. He hit 1 boundary and 4 sixes. Mumbai Indians finally put up 148/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing a victory target of 149, Kolkata Knight Riders lost Ganguly off the first ball. Chris Gayle too got out cheaply. Bradley Hodge and Morne van Wyk added 89 runs for the third wicket.
Hodge was batted superbly and KKR's victory looked a probability at one stage. However, JP Duminy ran him out on 73 to end the challenge of Kolkata Knight Riders. Hodge made 73 off 60 balls with 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. Morne van Wyk made 32. McCullum changed his batting order, but could not revive his form.
Kolkata Knight Riders finished at 139/6 in 20 overs. For Mumbai Indians, Zaheer Khan took 3 wickets. Dunimy was declared "Man of the Match". He also won the "Maximum Number of Sixes" award.
