Sikh Guru killed in Vienna; Curfew in Jalandhar, as Punjab on Boil
24/7 News Network: Punjab is on boil, after a Sikh Guru Sant Rama Nand was killed in violent clashes between two Sikh groups in Vienna, Austria yesterday. Some people belonging to a different Sikh sect, attacked a Gurudwara in Vienna, killing Sant Rama Nand. At least 30 people injured in the scuffle. After the incident, people in Punjab took the law into their hand. Curfew has been imposed in Jalandhar and BSF and Army have been called in.According to Austrian Police, two groups of Sikh worshippers clashed with knives and a handgun at a Gurudwara in Vienna. While Sant Rama Nand was killed, several other people, including Guru Sant Niranjan Daas are said to be in a critical condition. The 56-year-old Sant Rama Nand succumbed to his injuries at the Hospital. The police have arrested six persons so far.
As soon as news of Sant Rama Nand's death reached Punjab, people got agitated and took to the streets. Violent incidents have been reported from Jalandhar, Phagwara, Amritsar, Bhatinda, Hoshiarpur, and Ludhiana. Several buses, government vehicles and police vehicles were torched by the mob.
All routes to Jalandhar have been blocked. An empty train was set on fire in Jalandhar. The Jammu-Tawi Express was reportedly attacked by the violent protesters. Curfew has been imposed in Jalandhar. BSF and Paramilitary forces have been called in to restore the law and order. Punjab has been put on high alert. Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has urged the people to maintain calm and peace.

The teaching of guru granth sahib ji should be followed and is the only true sikhi. Sikhism has ten gurus and no more!!! As soon as that religion is altered to cater for a caste or a way of living then this is not Sikhi, this is people trying to make life a little easier for themselves. If a man proclaims to be a guru. He may do that but do not say you are a sikh guru because the one soul that started with Guru Nanak Dev ji resides in GGSJ today!

It doesn't matter whether this guy was a Guru or not. Murder is murder, and that is against Sikhi. Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed the Khalsa Panth with the Kirpan, as a constant reminder to stand up in the face of injustice and oppression, not to kill a person because they have different beliefs. The Guru's taught to live in harmony with other religions and castes, and to in fact abolish the caste system altogether. One of Guru Nanak Ji's closest friends, Bhai Mardana was a muslim, but did Guru Ji hold it against him?
I do agree that the true and eternal Guru is Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. However, the moment we start creating different Guru’s for different castes, we are not following Sikhi anymore, because there is not “caste” in Sikhi. We are all equal in the eyes of the creator, regardless of caste or creed.
These riots are not going to help, there is nothing to be gained from vandalism and violence, is it going to bring him back from the dead? Is it going to help catch the culprits? If a protest needs to be done, it should be one of peace, not random violence.

Few even fly in choppers donated by their blind followers. People respect them more than their parents.They all have one motive to collect as much money as they can if they spend something on people.s welfare its just to get ore donations they follow one rule spend one rupees only if there are chances of getting ten rupees back.When we will be wise enough,emotionally stable that we won,t look forward to these so called gurus for directions. As for the killing, i totally am against it. As per Sikh religion, we r not to harm anyone. I sincerely feel ashamed of the killing esp taken place in a temple.Why do we go to to the Gurudwara, to seek peace. But bloodshed, anger in the Gurudwara.

One must ask the question what makes people turn to or create sects or religious groups?. I believe that when one feels a void or a sense of isolation created by the majority he/she looks outside for a sense of belonging and a voice. That is why there is such a divide in a religion that believes everyone is equal and there is only one creator. That is why there are different gurdwaras setup for different “caste” in Punjab and across the world. The reality is that the custodians of the religion do not want lower caste’s to belong in “their” religion so in turn these peoples create their own beliefs and “religions”. The majority tend to forget that the khalsa panth was create by Guru Gobind Singh with 5 beings of different castes/creeds to eradicate the bramahan style caste system. Most importantly Sikhism was created for HUMANITY, not for particular people whether upper class or lower class. I believe gurdwaras should be more inclusive to all people and all people should be allowed to hold positions in gurdwaras. Then these separate factions will not exist or at least would not be encouraged. What happened in Vienna is a tragedy and is nothing less then murder. I don’t understand why these fundamentalist kill people with different ideologies but don’t do anything to people that go to gurdwaras drunk, discriminate in gurdwaras, steal from the gurdwaras, or fight each other in front of SGGS.....because to me preaching is just plain old talk...actions are what should be judged.....

Everybody is arguing on the fact if he was a Sikh Guru or not, but I think you are forgetting the fact that a life was lost which was taken by a Sikh individual in a Holy temple which is a place for worship not Murder. Every religion out there deserves respect. Sant Rama Nand was a holy soul which some people can't even understand what this world has lost. Sants dont have fatty stomaches...Sants are the persons who convert hell into heaven. Think where r u nw days. These deras and babas have ruiend our society. the presence of such deras and babas show that still our population is illitrate. Like I said before, don't anybody dare to call him a Pakhandi Sadh. Sant Rama Nand Ji will be deeply missed for what he represented and what he did for everybody, especially for the poor. And NO he did not live in a high-rise or drive an expensive car or live any type of luxurious life. I have visited the Dera myself and he has even come visited my family in our home, which was a great honor! Only we can understand what we have lost! may SANT RAMANAND be a saint or not, but definitely he is not a sikh guru or saint...dnt dare to harm sikhs or singhs all around d world...sikhs respect all the 10 guru sahibs, 15 bhagats, 11 bhats nd 3 gursikhs equally...these kinds of saints, radha swamis, nirankaris, nd nakli sants like raam rahim r creating discriminations nd creating hole within the sikh community on the basis of castes...these saints will not remain for longer bcoz ultimately.....
