French President Nicolas Sarkozy says NO to Burqa in France
Paris: French President Nicolas Sarkozy has taken a tough stand on the use of Muslim Burqas and said that they won't be allowed in France. "Burqas are a sign of "debasement" of women and symbolises slavery. They are not related to any religion", said Sarkozy. Sarkozy made this announcement in his first Presidential address to the Parliament. While most people have welcomed Sarkozy's decision, saying it is a welcome step to offer freedom to women irrespective of their religion and community, critics fear that it might upset France's Muslim community.
"In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity," said Sarkozy at the Chateau of Versailles, southwest of Paris.

Mr. Sarkozy is not changing the rules of any religion. He merely says:"In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity" then who gives the right of what to wear what not, this is rubbish
The French don't want to ban the Burqa. It is just that, due to security reasons,
covering the face in shops, public buildings, cinemas, train and bus stations and airports is not allowed.
well, the French know how to dress themselves. Don't have to worry *lol*
Besides, walking around with covered face is prohibited in some countries.
