Kapil Sibal advocates FDI in Education, wants to scrap Class X Board Exam
New Delhi: In a significant development, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal has strongly advocated Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the Education sector and said that Madrassa education should be allowed to come into the mainstream. Kapil Sibal also wanted the Class X Board Examinations to be scrapped and said that all states will be consulted in this regard. While batting for the FDI in Education, Kapil Sibal said that we should not prevent quality learning from coming to the country. He also pointed to the fact that over 160,000 students go abroad every year to seek higher education and they encounter many problems including visa and attacks (as in Australia). The FDI in Education, will resolve all these problems, he said.
"When we need higher education, the foreign universities can come to our doorstep. We don't need to send our children there", said Sibal. "India has the potential of providing high quality graduates to the world", he added.
HRD Minister Kapil Sibal also revealed that the government is planning to scrap the Class X Board Examination, as these exams give trauma to both parents and students. "There has to be an alternative system other than exams', he said. He also said that the HRD Ministry will consult with all state education boards before taking a final decision.
