Lahore High Court releases 26/11 accused Hafiz Mohammad Saeed

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has ordered the release of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused and Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, who was under house arrest along with several others. Hafiz Saeed was arrested on December 12, 2008, after a UN resolution banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa and asked Pakistan to take action against its leaders aftermath Mumbai terror attacks.

Hafiz Saeed is said to be the mastermind behind 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which claimed the lives of over 165 people. Jamaat-ud-Dawa was just a frontal organisation of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The Lahore High Court ruled that detention of Hafiz Saeed was a violation of the Constitution and Law of Pakistan. Hafiz Saeed's release came as a surprise for the Indian government and investigating agencies. It is believed that Pakistan government deliberately allowed Hafiz Saeed to let go and did not strengthen the case against him before the court of law.
