Five Lakh People displaced in Assam Floods
Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam, has deteriorated further, with over 5 lakh people were reportedly displaced in ten districts of the state. The Majuli Islands are worst affected by the flood. Other areas in Assam, which are facing a turbulent time due to floods, are Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Morigaon, Barpeta, Kamrup, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Baksa.According to latest reports, an entire island in Majuli Islands, got flooded. One person was reported swept away by the flood there. Heavy rain continued to worsen the flood situation in most parts of Assam, with normal life coming to a complete halt.
The Assam Government has put all district authorities on high alert. The National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) has been asked to step up the rescue operations.
