Supreme Court issues Notice to Centre on Delhi HC verdict on Gay Sex

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre and NGO Naz Foundation on a petition, which challenged the Delhi High Court's verdict on gay sex. The Delhi High Court had termed "homosexuality" as legal. It had also sought changes in the existing Section 377 of the IPC, which criminalises consensual gay sex.

The Supreme Court refused to stay gay marriages, saying it need further clarifications from the Centre and other parties, which support and oppose gay sex. The Court has sought a reply from the Centre and Naz Foundation by July 20.
