Five-Phase Assembly Elections in Jharkhand between Nov 27 and Dec 18

New Delhi: Breaking News! Putting all speculations into rest, the Election Commission of India has announced the poll dates for Jharkhand Assembly. The naxal-infected state will witness a five-phase election, which will begin on on November 27 and end on December 18. Counting of votes will be held on December 23.

Election Commissioner Navin Chawla held a press conference this evening to announce the poll dates for Jharkhand. The model code of conduct will come into effect in the state with immediate effect from today.

The President's rule was imposed in Jharkhand on January 19, after then Chief Minister Shibu Soren resigned after losing the by-election. The 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will be constituted before January 18, 2010.
