Pakistan launches War against Taliban in South Wazirstan

Islamabad: Pakistan has launched its biggest-ever offensive against the Al Qaeda and Taliban in South Wazirstan, by moving over 30,000 ground troops and fighter jets and helicopters to the region. The Army is fully prepared to meet the challenges offered by the militants in the difficult terrain this time. The attack was launched from three directions.

The Army has taken out this planned offensive, even as the Tehreek-e-Taliban has launched five terror attacks on Pakistan Police in Lahore and Peshawar in the last three days. The offensive was planned for over four months.

Since Taliban controls most part of South Wazirstan, the Pakistan Army is determined to wipe out the militants and establish control over these areas. Interestingly, Southern Waziristan does not have a border with Afghanistan.

The Pakistan Army has moved its fighter jets to the mountainous region of South Wazirstan. The Pakistan Army will face about 10,000 militants in the region. The war may take longer than expected. Out of the 10,000 Taliban fighters, 1,500 Uzbek fighters are considered to be tough enough to give a tough fight to any military.

Pakistan Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud has vowed to give a befitting reply to the Pakistan Army, if they carry out offensive against the Taliban.
