BSP sweeps Uttar Pradesh Assembly By-poll, BJP and SP draw Blank

Lucknow: Breaking News! Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is on a high after the resounding victory in Uttar Pradesh by-polls. Despite all negative campaigns, BSP swept the by-polls, by winning 9 of the 11 seats that went to polls. The Samajwadi Party and the BJP suffered a complete rout. The Congress managed to win one seat, while one seat went to the Independent.

The BSP had earlier held just 4 seats. So, it managed to add five more to its kitty. The Samajwadi Party had 3 seats, but lost all this time. The most surprising result came in Lucknow (West), where Congress veteran Shyam Kishore Shukla defeated former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s nominee Amit Puri.

The BJP and Samajwadi Party lose their ground completely in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress has emerged stronger and ready to give a tough fight to BSP in coming days. Congress candidate Raj Babbar defeated Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav by over 85,000 votes to win the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat.

The BSP candidates won in Jhansi, Isauli (Sultanpur), Hainsar Bazar (Sant Kabir Nagar), Padrauna (Kushinagar), Puwayan (Shahjahanpur), Rari (Jaunpur), Etawah City and Bhartana (Etawah). Congress won in Lucknow (West), while Independent Ajay Rai won in Kolasala (Varanasi).
