Congress Candidate Raj Babbar wins Firozabad Lok Sabha By-Poll

Lucknow: Breaking News! Congress candidate Raj Babbar won the Firozabad Lok Sabha by-polls, by beating Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Dimple Yadav by 85,343 votes. The Firozabad by-poll was a battle of pride for Samajwadi Party, as Dimple Yadav is the daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Raj Babbar was a former member of Samajwadi Party.

Raj Babbar's win came as a moral booster for the Congress, as it has emerged as a strong party after the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh. Both BJP and Samajwadi Party are on a decline in the state. AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Filmstar Govinda were among the prominent personalities, who campaigned for Raj Babbar.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's son Akhilesh Yadav had won from Firozabad during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. The seat was considered as a stronghold of Samajwadi Party.
