Cyclone Phyan set to hit Maharashtra, South Gujarat
Mumbai: Breaking News! Mumbai, parts of Maharashtra and South Gujarat are on high alert, as Cyclone Phyan set to hit those areas by tonight or early morning tomorrow. The Weather Office in Mumbai has already issued a cyclone alert for the coastal regions of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and other areas of Maharashtra.
The cyclone named as Phyan, is currently located at a distance of about 250 km west of Goa. the Met department confirmed the cyclone alert is still at the level of "orange" not "red", which is considered as dangerous.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy winds in Juhu, Versova, Cuffe Parade, Colaba and Worli in the next 24 hours. Mumbai also recorded light showers yesterday due to the depression.
The Cyclone Phyan is at 420 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 670 km south-southwest of Surat in south Gujarat. It may intensify further and take a shape of a big cyclonic storm within a few hours. The north Maharashtra coast between Mahuva and Dahanu will be hit by the Cyclonic Storm by early hours of Nov 12.
All fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea. The Cyclone Phyan will have a wind speed of 70-80 kmph and will go up to 90 kmph, said the Met department.
