Ricky Ponting compares ODI Series Victory to World Cup Win

Guwahati: Breaking News! Australian skipper Ricky Ponting compared the hard-fought series victory over India despite all the odds, to the World Cup and Champions Trophy victories. He also termed the series win as one of the special triumphs in his career. Australia has taken an unassailable 4-2 lead in the series with the 6-wicket victory in Guwahati.

Australia won the seven-match series against India without full service of seven key players, including Brett Lee, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Nathan Bracken and Peter Siddle. Ponting gave full credit to his young players, who succeeded in putting pressure on higher rated Indian players.

"This series victory is special and a great step further towards our preparation to the 2011 World Cup, which will be held in the subcontinent. I would not have asked anything better than this", said a jubilant Ponting.

"It's really a positive thing for Australian cricket. Winning the series against India at their own backyard and with so many injury problems was more than satisfactory", he said.
