UPA Government agrees to restore Sugarcane Pricing
New Delhi: Breaking News! Under pressure from the Opposition parties and farmers, the UPA Government decided to restore the earlier sugarcane prices and remove the controversial clause from the ordinance issued earlier. The decision was taken at an all-party meeting convened by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today.
Besides the Opposition parties, UPA allies DMK and TMC had also opposed to the new sugarcane prices announced by the government. The farmers from Uttar Pradesh had held a demonstration in New Delhi yesterday. The Opposition stalled the proceedings of Lok Sabha yesterday and today. Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Ajit Singh was leading the farmers' protest in Uttar Pradesh.
The government will bring a new bill on sugarcane prices in the Parliament. It will take the farmers' demands and grievances into consideration so that they do not suffer. The Parliament is expected to function normally from Monday, as the impasse came to an end.
