Celebrations in Hyderabad, as Centre agrees to Telangana State; KCR ends Fast
Hyderabad: Breaking News! Under pressure from the people in Telangana region and perturbed over the fast-unto-death by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the Centre agreed to create a separate Telangana state. The decision was taken around midnight, after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram announced that the Centre will initiate the process of forming the state of Telangana.
People erupted into joy and celebrations at Osmania University as well as in the Telangana districts. Students, political parties and common people came out on the streets and celebrated this "victory". Prohibitory orders were lifted from the Telangana region, except Hyderabad.
The Congress Core Group led by party President Sonia Gandhi and PM Dr. Manmohan Singh held two long meetings at 10 Janpath and 7 Race Course Road, and took the decision of creating Telangana state. The Congress tried to take the credit, while the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) termed it as a victory for the party and people of Telangana.
K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), who has been on a fast-unto-death for 11 days, ended his fast and thanked Congress President Sonia Gandhi for agreeing to their demand for a separate Telangana state. He also thanked BJP leader LK Advani and the people of Telangana and his own party workers for supporting the "struggle".
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah is a relieved man now. He will return to Hyderabad today. Rosaiah may move a resolution in Andhra Pradesh Assembly for the creation of Telangana state.
The politics over Hyderabad continued. While the Congress is not in a mood to give way Hyderabad to Telangana and also refused to make it a Union Territory, the TRS made it clear that Telangana without Hyderabad won't be acceptable. The issue should be resolved by dialogue, as people of Andhra Pradesh don't want any further violence and shutdown.
