Protests in Assam over Telangana, BPF demands Bodoland

Guwahati: Breaking News! Strong protests were reported from various parts of Assam, as different ethnic groups in the state slammed the Centre for its decision to carve out a separate Telangana state. They also threatened to revive their demand for a separate Bodoland state.

The agitation is being spearheaded by Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) which is an ally of the ruling Congress party. The tribal groups, which protested against the separate Telangana state are Bodos, Dimasa and Karbis.

All Dimasa Students' Union and the Dimasa People's Council (DPC) have also demanded a separate 'Dimaraji' state for the Dimasa tribe in Assam. The Telangana issue has put the Congress on a back foot not only in Andhra Pradesh, but also in other parts of the country.
