Supreme Court asks Centre to legalise Prostitution
New Delhi: The Supreme Court asked the Centre to legalise prostitution or sex trade, if it is not possible to curb it. "When you say it is the world's oldest profession and when you are not able to curb it by laws, why don't you legalise it? You can then monitor the trade, rehabilitate and provide medical aid to those involved", said the apex court.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by NGOs Bachpan Bachao Andolan and Childline, who complained about large-scale child trafficking in the country.
Justices Dalveer Bhandari and AK Patnaik asked Solicitor-General Gopal Subramaniam to consider options to legalise prostitution, if it is in the interest of society.
