By Himanshu Guru: The BRICS Summit has created a big buzz due to the self-immolation of a Tibetan exile in an anti-China protest in the Indian capital. Despite a clash between the Tibetan protestors and Indian Police the Summit took place in Delhi.  BRICS is a grouping acronym that refers to the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China South Africa - the leaders of world’s fastest-growing economies. The coalition was made formally in 2006 at the initiative of Russia and in 2011 South Africa joined it.  The 4th BRICS summit’s (2012) motto was to put an end to the military action against Iran and Syria and to develop actions to improve mutual trade.  Accordingly the BRICS leaders met under heavy security at The Taj Palace, a five-star hotel in Delhi. They signed new trade agreements and called for reforms in the U.N. Security Council.  However, some people are not happy with the coalition for certain reasons. Lalit Mansingh, former Indian ambassador to the United States feels that there is no common patch up principle among the members of BRICS and also all of them have problems with China.  China has been quick to condemn the Dalai Lama for the emotions and worship standards of Buddhists monk and nuns. Some people also criticize China’s intolerance of the natural tendency found within humanity to seek and worship God (in the Dalai Lama case).  As a result, when they are separated from their worship, the Tibetans feel that they are behind prison walls that no one can see and that they can barely describe.  A young Tibetan man Yeshi set himself on fire to exhibit a strong protest in Delhi last Monday. He died of severe burn injuries just hours before the arrival of the Chinese President in India. |
