Satyamev Jayate Episode 3 focuses on Dowry Torture PDF Print E-mail

By Himanshu Guru: After telecasting two episodes of the today’s most talked about TV chat show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ with a milestone viewership of 90 million, Aamir Khan presented some heart-wrenching incidents in the third episode on Sunday related to dowry torture.

At the top of everything Aamir is doing a great job. Certainly, this is the first ever attempt of its kind made to do away with the social stigmas and trends that no governments, NGOs and even other TV shows had done earlier.

After discussing female feticide and child sexual abuse in the first two episodes respectively, the superstar of Bollywood took up the topic ‘dowry torture’ in the third one. Yesterday we saw the wretched true story of a victim lady who had to suffer a lethal situation for the sake of dowry. The victim gets married to a NRI, whose family members begun the negotiation with tender and kind words but gradually show their ‘aukaat’. At the marriage platform only the girl’s family had to tackle the duress to meet the demand of the groom of a golden ornament.

The story goes ahead and in U.S. the girl was tortured to her worst. At the last stage she was left by her husband even without food and water for four long days before she called the women’s cell in U.S. to rescue her.

The last demand was to provide him a bungalow in Delhi and when the girl denied to it her husband tried to kill her.

Whatever we saw in the show, we believe it to be 100 percent true. The cases in this context are pending in the court.

Starting from Kiran Bedi’s ‘aap ki kacheri’ several serials have been made in India taking social issues. Some of them put good social impact. On the other hand some channels also did not want to lose a chance to commercialize even this ideal concept and made ridiculous serials like ‘Rakhi Kaa Insaaf’ where an item girl of Bollywood claimed to provide justice.

But Aamir Khan’s ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is above all these shortcomings that the earlier serials had. Aamir clearly announces, ‘Naa hum kacheri hain, naa hum court ke kaam mein dakhalandazi karna chahte hein, hum bus justice chahte hein'.

Satyamev Jayate. May the truth prevails.
