Breaking News! All-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla proved his worth despite being ignored by the national selectors again and again, as he powered Bengal to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time.

Bengal defeated Mumbai by six wickets in the final at Feroze Shah Kotla in New Delhi to win their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy title.

Earlier, Mumbai had scored 248 in 49.2 overs. At one stage, the team was 83/0 in 12.5 overs. However, Laxmi Ratan Shukla struck hard with three top order wickets to bring Bengal back into the game.

Wasim Jaffer made 61, while Ajinkya Rahane scored 24. Suryakumar Yadav scored 50 and was supported by Aditya Tare, who made 35. For Bengal, Shukla took four wickets, while Shami Ahmed took two wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 249, Bengal rode on the superb form of Laxmi Ratan Shukla to reach 252/4, thanks to the unbeaten 107-run partnership between Shukla and Anustup Majumdar.

Shukla remained unbeaten on 106 off 90 balls. Sourav Ganguly scored 38, while Shreevats Goswami made 42. Majumdar remained unbeaten on 50. Shukla was declared 'MAn of the Match'. He scored two centuries in Vijay Hazare Trophy this season and also took 13 wickets.
