Malayalam Filmmaker Navodaya Appachan dies at 81 |

News Desk: South Indian filmmaker Navodaya Appachan passed away at a private hospital in Kochi on Tuesday night. He was 81 and suffering from prostate cancer for last 10 years.
He is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters. He was admitted to a private hospital on April 17 following old-age related illness. Â
Appachan is the first Indian film producer to make the 3D movie 'My Dear Kuttichathan', which was released as 'Chota Chetan' in Hindi. He is the founder of Navodaya Studio in Chennai. He has also founded Kishkinta, India's first theme park, in Chennai.
Appachan is also known as Maliampurackal Chacko Punnoose. He will always be remembered for his contribution to the south film industry. He had produced the first 70mm film 'Padayottam', which starred veteran Mammootty and Mohanlal.
