By Chinmayee Dash: BJP leader Uma Bharti's recent remark over Christian faith healers indicating Paul Dhinakaran has sparked a fresh controversy. Media is also shifting its focus on the activities of the Christian man of South India.

Defending the Hindu spiritual gurus, the BJP leader asked why the personalities like Nirmal Baba will be questioned over the practices in the name of religion, while the Christian faith healers are allowed to earn money in an unfettered manner.


However, Uma directly did not charge Paul Dhinakaran, but said that a Christian man in South India, who holds similar status like Nirmal Baba, nobody raises voice against him.


She alleged that Hindu gurus are always being singled out for criticism, but spiritual leaders from other religions like Paul Dhinakaran are not being targeted.


Such statement needs to be analysed. Somehow, Uma is right as all the time Hindu spiritual leaders are alleged of bagging money from their disciples and followers by solving their problems.


The self-proclaimed faith healer Paul Dhinakaran is a very popular figure in south India. He is reportedly the owner of a massive Rs 5,000 crore empire.


Dhinakaran is the chancellor of Karunya University, an 'A' certified accreditation in the country, located near Coimbatore. The University has been founded with a vision to "raise leaders in technology with high spiritual values and commitment to society".


The question arises, Is he a god like man or fraud? Born on September 4, 1962, to DGS Dhinakaran in Chennai, he is an Indian Christian evangelist. He also runs the Chirsian society called 'Jesus Calls'.


His website http://www.jesuscalls.org/ or http://www.prayertoweronline.org/ describes Paul Dhinakaran as ‘a mighty apostle of God from the land of India’. It claims that he is powered by God with the gifts of prophecy, word of knowledge, and healings of faith. He is described to bring God's word prophetically to people, the country and churches.


The society also claims that God spoke to Paul Dhinakaran through his father Late Dr. DGS Dhinakaran to serve people and the nation.


The website also claims that God does miracles when he prays for people and country. The 49-year-old Paul Dhinakaran has been accused of religious conversion in various parts of South India.


Not only Dhinakaran, but his wife and three children are also actvely engaged in the campaigns, television programmes related to Christianity. His society 'Jesus Calls' runs a television channel "Rainbow TV", which produces around 1800 TV programmes in a month in 8 major languages, to promote Christianity.


It has also been seen that the Christian leader offers Business Blessings Plan on his website promising wisdom, wealth and prosperity. Under this plan, the businessmen are asked to enroll with Jesus Calls and be a part of annual donations, or monthly donations from their earnings.


He allegedly receives funds from the Prayer Tower Building Blessing Plan, Sponsor TV Programs, Jesus Calls Blessing Plan, Family Blessing Plan, Children Blessing Plan, TV Club Blessing Plan, Bethesda Prayer Center, Sponsor Prayer Festival, Business Blessing Plan, Dr DGS Dhinakaran Endowment Fund.


If Nirmal Baba is under the scanner for his questionable practices in the name of religion, why not Dhinakaran? As both the leaders of separate religions are bagging money in different manner, a man from Christianity should not be exempted.
