Rahman's CWG Theme Song @ Rs 5 crore and Six Months PDF Print E-mail

News Desk: Music Maestro AR Rahman, who had won two Oscar awards for his song 'Jai Ho' in "Slumdog Millionaire has drawn severe criticism over the CWG theme song, "Oh Yaaro, Yeh India Bula Liya". The song failed to impress the fans, politicians, singers and musicians.

Ironically, AR Rahman took six months to compose the song and he charges Rs 5 crore for that! The CWG OC members are not convinced about quality of the song. Some of them want the song to recomposed.

Even many music directors and singers in the country feel that Rs 5 crore was too huge for a theme song. Although Rahman's stature in music industry is undisputed, Rs 5 crore for a theme song cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Leading composer Louis Banks told a TV channel that it takes just 10 minutes to compose a tune, if the composer is truly inspired. He wondered why Rahman's CWG theme song took six months and then failed to impress anyone.

Nobody has any doubt on AR Rahman's expertise and skill set as a great Composer and Musician. He is a gifted musician indeed. But unfortunately, he failed to impress his fans with the CWG Theme Song, "Oh Yaaro".

OMG !!! Rs 5 Crore for a song ??? This is totally absurd. Mr AR Rahman is taking advantage of the CWG. He should have composed the song for FREE !!! Isn't he an INDIAN ? This contract should be scrapped. Instead why not the CWG Committee call for nationwide "CWG Theme Song" competition ??? Say with a reward of Rs 10 Lacs ??? Is that a good idea ??? They could have entries from all over India and they could have easily chosen the BEST of them all. At the same time Rs 4 Crore 90 Lacs of tax payers' money could have been saved and utilised for better developmental works. What do you say my fellow Indian ???

Just plain pathetic, absurd use of tax payers money! The wordings of the songs are not clear. The song should have been an inspiration to not only athletes but all Indians, and what it turns out to be something like 'soya rae ...'. We all had huge expectation from Rehman, but expect few songs all his songs sounds like 'Roza'. Anyway I am not a fan of 'Jai Ho' as well! except it won him an Oscar.

I guess if there was a prize money of 5 crore and best anthem music competition we wud have got mindblowing tracks as India has loads of talent, its just they are not getting opportunities. I wish there wud have been some anthem music making competition. And why 5 crore for a single song ?? Is govt mad?? for them CRORES is like few hundreds now after looking at th corruption amt data.
