Mamata's Rail: 15 Train Accidents in 13 Months, 300 Killed PDF Print E-mail

New Delhi: The Indian Railways never witnessed such a troublesome period in its history, what it saw in the past 13 months of Mamata Banerjee's rule. 15 train accidents in 13 months - about 300 killed, this is what will be haunting Mamata for long.

Despite all precautions, warnings and and outrage, Mamata Banerjee hasn't been able to stop the train mishaps. In the vision 2020 Document, Mamata Banerjee had emphasised on a zero tolerance policy on train mishaps, but she failed to achieve her goal.

Critics blame Mamata, saying her absence from Railway Ministry and extra-focus on 2011 Assembly elections in West Bengal is the main cause of decline of safety and security of the Indian Railways. However, Mamata has rubbished such allegations.

Former Railway Ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan have slammed Mamata, asking her to focus on Railways, rather than West Bengal. But Didi is defiant. She knows she is getting West Bengal, as Left is heading for a drubbing after ruling the state for 34 years.

Mamata Banerjee is the only Union Minister to remain absent from the Cabinet Meetings for maximum number of time. She is fully engaged in state politics and perhaps does not have a great command over the Railways like Lalu Yadav.

Perhaps, it's high time Mamata Banerjee focus on the Railways and take effective and strong steps to prevent the regular occurrence of such train mishaps. As the Railway Minister of the country, she needs to own the responsibility and ensure safety and security to common people.
