News Desk: In an attempt to help people quit tobacco, a prominent tobacco cessation company ‘Nicorette’ is all set to start a helpline from tomorrow onwards that provides techniques to get rid of the addiction.

On the eve of the ‘No Tobacco Day’ on 31st May, the tobacco cessation company is launching the helpline which will be active from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. daily to provide counseling in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Bengali. The service can be accessed at the toll-free number: 1800-227787.

Such helpline is badly necessary in Indian context as the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (2009-2010) shows that one-third of all adults in India use tobacco and over 35 % of them want to quit this habit.

In fact the Company manufactures nicotine-based chewing gums that help quit tobacco. These gums contain medicinal nicotine among other ingredients that fill up a tobacco user's hunger for nicotine without the harmful effects of using tobacco.

Tushar Murdeshwar, vice-president marketing at the consumer division of Nicorette's parent company, Johnson & Johnson India, said on Tuesday: "We want to partner with quitters through their entire journey by providing them the entire infrastructure and support that is needed to quit."

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also welcome the step stating that such help lines are essential for any tobacco-control effort due to their easy accessibility and cost-effectiveness as tools to increase the quit success rate.

The helpline, which is the latest addition to Nicorette's Tobacco Cessation Infrastructure, also has a Facebook page and an SMS-based text-to-quit service to help the quitters.
