News Desk: When we consume fish in our food, the Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which is an Omega-3 fatty acid that is present in fish, improves our memory and brainpower, claims a study.

The researcher team from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry went on to find out how fish intake improves memory and came to the conclusion that the DHA present in fish actually improves the brain capacity as well as memory.

The researchers selected some laboratory model and fed them with fishes and tested later. They found that the people had 30 percent higher levels in the hippocampus. The hippocampus is the part of the brain that is involved in memory forming, organizing, and storing.

In other words, they found that the memory cells in the hippocampus could communicate better with each other and better communicate messages when DHA levels in that part of the brain were higher which implies that memory improves on a high-DHA diet. And this high-DHA is best available in fishes as intake.

The research was led by Yves Sauve and the findings have been published in the journal ‘Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism.’
