Breaking News: Patients with kidney disease, who are treated by stem cell therapy, either suffer from tissue damage or die from an infection, claims a new study in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
The Canadian and Thai researchers said that stem cell therapy can be used to treat a wide range of diseases, but patients with kidney disease are not benefited from the treatment. They rather develop tissue damage called 'angiomyeloproliferative' lesions into blood vessels and bone marrow cells.
However, the animal studies prove that injecting stem cells into organs in body including kidney is safe. The new findings may be a warning to clinical investigators about the complications of stem cell therapy to experiment more on humans.
