Hong Kong (Agencies): According to a latest research in Hong Kong, Green tea may help in protecting your eyes. Green tea contains healthful substances that can penetrate the eye tissues and increase the resistance against Glaucoma and other eye diseases.

Green tea has a number of antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein, and zeaxanthin, which are capable of protecting the eyes from different types of diseases.

The research was conducted on the eye tissues of laboratory rats fed on Green tea revealed that different parts of the eye absorbed different amounts of catechins.

While the retina which is the light sensitive tissue lining the inner surface of the eye absorbed the highest quantity of catechins, cornea, the outer layer of eye contributing to its focus absorbed the least.

The effects of green tea catechins helped in reducing harmful oxidative stress in the eyes and they lasted for up to 20 hours, said the researchers on the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
