Breaking News! The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) reached a compromise with the Union Home Ministry over the UID (Aadhaar), which paved the way for the project to go ahead. Â The Home Ministry and UIDAI will now collect biometric data without any dplication. The Cabinet Committee on UIDAI settled the issues between Home Minister Chidambaram and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia. The meeting was chaired by PM Dr. Manmohan Singh. Â The UIADAI was extended to issue 600 million cards in 16 states and union territories, while the Home Ministry will cover the remaining 600 million people under National Population Register (NPR). The entire process will be completed by mid-2013. Â According to the UIDAI, around 17 crore UID enrolments have been completed by January 20, 2012. Over 11.90 crore Aadhaar numbers have been generated so far. |
