Srinagar: Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen escaped from police custody near Patnitop in Kashmir valley while they were being brought to the court from Kishtwar to Udhampur.

Police said that Sher Khan and his associate Dullah Gujjar escaped near Patnitop on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Wednesday. They were escorted by police personnel in a vehicle.

The dreaded terrorists were to appear a local court on Wednesday. They fled away after stopping the vehicle for tea at a shop near Patnitop.

The two were caught in a foiled attempt to kill Congress MP Lal Singh in Kishtwar district in 2004.
