Chandipur: India is all set to launch its indigenously developed nuclear capable ‘Agni-V’ ballistic missile on Wednesday. The trial will be conducted from Wheeler Island off Odisha coast.

The missile is likely to go up to a range over 5,000 km. The trial will be taken place on Wednesday from the launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, a senior ITR scientist said.

The missile will be tested for the first time with some advanced and indigenous technology with support of a canisterised mobile launcher. As it is a development trial, the networking and health parameters of the long range missile would be taken care of.

If the trial will be successful, Indian will join the band of countries in the world to possess the technology for Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM).

The surface-to-surface missile is able to carry a pay-load of 1 tonne. It weighs 50 tonnes. Scientists associated with the project hoped that the launch will be successful on Wednesday.

Earlier, Agni-IV was successfully launched on November 15 last year and it was highly satisfactory in terms of its ‘control and guidance’ system.
