News Desk: Former CPI-M leader T P Chandrasekharan, who was expelled from the party in 2009, was killed mercilessly by unidentified assailants at Vadakara in Kozhikode district of Kerala, police said on Saturday.

The 52-year-old Chandrasekharan was attacked at around 10.15 PM on Friday. Police said that the assailants attacked him with country-made bombs when he was riding a motor bike. He was hacked to death with sharp weapons when he fell off the bike.

Chandrasekharan was expelled from the CPI-M along with other leaders for revolting against the party over certain ideological issues. He was known as revolutionary leader. Since then he along with his supporters had been attacked by the CPI-M workers.

The CPI-M workers could come under the scanner. However, CPI-M has denied reports that party workers were involved in the attack. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that his party workers cannot be suspected till police gets evidence.

He described entire incident as 'gruesome'. He said that a political leader was killed and the culprits should be booked soon.
