News Desk: The Air India management took a strong action by sacking 10 striking pilots from their services for not joining work that hit the international flight operations on Tuesday. The pilots' union was also de-recognised.
The management de-recognised Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) on Tuesday and its offices in Mumbai and Delhi were sealed after over 100 pilots called in sick.
The management had warned the pilots, who had joined the strike, to return to work by 6 pm today. The action comes hours after about 100 pilots refused to join work citing health reasons following which four international flights were cancelled.
Earlier on Tuesday, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh had termed the pilots' strike 'inappropriate' and 'illegal'. He said that the pilots need to give a notice in advance before sitting on strike. But the Air India pilots have called in sick and the strike is illegal, he told the reporters.
He said that the pilots should have patience and discuss with the management seeking a solution. But without informing anyone, they began strike for which the passengers suffered a lot.
The minister's reaction came after the agitating pilots refused to join work after the management failed to meet the pilots' demands. The pilots are protesting for the rescheduling of Boeing 787 Dreamliner training.
