Patna: At least 10 people died of food poisoning in Bihar's Jehanabad district. Reports say that all the victims were labourers. They fell ill after consuming poisonous 'sattu' - a variety of gram flour.

Police said that the labourers had bought contaminated ‘sattu’ on Monday from the same shop they usually purchase. Soon after consuming the poisonous flour, they complained of stomach pain and their conditions deteriorated.

The victims were rushed to the district hospital where they were declared dead. The condition of two others is critical.

Soon after the incident, police conducted raid at the shop from where the labourers had purchased sattu. However, the shopkeeper is absconding.

An enquiry has been ordered into the incident. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for the kin of the victims.
