Breaking News! At least 16 people were killed and over 25 injured, as the Hampi Express collided with a goods train at Penneconda station of Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district.

The incident occurred at around 3:45 AM today. At least two bogies were badly affected. Some people are still trapped inside. Efforts are on to pull them out. The injured have been admitted to the hospitals.

The Hampi Express was on its way from Hubli to Bangalore, when the incident occurred. One of the coaches also caught fire, but it was brought under control. Three bogies, including one SLR and two ordinary class coaches were derailed after the collision.

The Hampi Express collided with the stationary goods train. A probe has been ordered to know the exact cause of the collision. The human error cannot be ruled out in this case.

The Railway Ministry has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the dead. Rs 1 lakh will be given to the grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 to people who suffered minor injuries.
